Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

This is a short starting guide. We will continue adding answers as ChoreBuddy grows.

Getting started

Who can create a ChoreBuddy account?

An adult aged 18 or over creates the account and household. They can then invite other ChoreBuddy users to join the household, or create restricted user profiles for children they are authorised to manage.

How does the 30-day free trial work?

ChoreBuddy is free to try for 30 days. No credit card is required, and the trial does not automatically convert into a paid subscription. If you choose to subscribe, the subscription starts on the date of purchase, even if there are days remaining in your free trial. Any unused trial days do not extend the subscription period. Current subscription options and prices are shown in the App Store or Google Play before purchase.

Household members and access

What is a restricted user profile?

Each household has three roles: Admin, Manager and Member. The person who creates the household becomes the Admin, and only the Admin can add new household members. Invited ChoreBuddy users become Managers by default, but can instead be assigned the Member role. Restricted user profiles—typically created for children—can only be Members.

Members use Simple View, where they can take and complete chores, start new goals, and see their own status—but not the status of other household members. Managers and Admins can create chores, create goals for household members, approve completed chores, and mark balances as settled.

Can a user belong to more than one household?

Yes. A ChoreBuddy user with their own email address can belong to multiple households, but can be the Admin of only one household. A restricted user profile created for a child by an adult belongs only to the household in which it was created and cannot join other households.

How do children join the household?

A parent or another authorised adult creates or invites the child from within the household. To join, the child scans the QR code shown on their membership profile in the adult’s ChoreBuddy app. Children do not need to purchase a subscription or accept the adult Terms of Use.

What should I do if the QR code does not scan?

If the QR code does not scan, the child can enter the four-character code shown directly below it instead. The adult can find both the QR code and the code on the child’s membership profile.

Can my child use ChoreBuddy without their own phone or tablet?

Yes. Your child can participate without using their own device. A parent or another Manager or Admin can use ChoreBuddy on their device to start goals for the child and claim and complete the chores the child performs. This allows the household to track the child’s chores and progress without giving the child access to a phone or tablet.

Chores, goals and rewards

What are chore templates?

Chore templates help Managers and Admins quickly create chores that are used regularly. Templates can be created and selected from the chore creation screen, so frequently repeated chores can be added without entering the same information each time.

How do points, goals and rewards work?

Every chore has both a monetary amount and a point value. If a user—typically a child—has an active goal, the points earned from completing the chore are added to their progress toward that goal. If they do not have an active goal, the chore’s monetary amount is added to their balance for the next settlement date. ChoreBuddy records these amounts, but any payment is handled privately within the household; ChoreBuddy does not hold or transfer money.

How can points make goals more rewarding?

Admins choose how many points a chore earns compared with its monetary amount. By awarding slightly more points, Members have an extra reason to work towards an active goal instead of receiving the monetary amount at settlement.

For example, if a child wants a jacket costing NOK 800, the goal can be set to 800 points. With a rate of 12 points for every NOK 10, a chore worth NOK 100 earns 120 points. The child will reach the 800-point goal after completing chores worth about NOK 670. Without an active goal, the same chores would instead add about NOK 670 to their monetary balance.

Each household chooses its own point rate and is responsible for providing the agreed goal or monetary reward. The points-to-money ratio can be configured from the household’s Admin page.

What happens when a chore is completed?

A Member, including a restricted user, can claim a chore and then either cancel it or mark it as complete. They can also attach photos to the chore. When marked as complete, the chore either moves to adult approval or, if automatic approval is enabled, goes directly to Completed.

A chore awaiting approval can be approved or rejected by a Manager or Admin. A rejection must include a reason, returns the chore to In Progress, and notifies the Member. An approved chore is marked as Completed. Once a chore is Completed, it cannot be returned to an earlier status.

When a chore becomes Completed, its points are added to the Member’s active goal. If there is no active goal, its monetary amount is included in the balance for the next settlement date. On that date, a Manager or Admin is notified that the completed chores are ready to be settled and marked as Settled.

What happens on the settlement date?

The settlement date marks the end of a household reward period. ChoreBuddy shows the monetary amount accumulated by each user without an active goal. Any payment is arranged privately within the household; ChoreBuddy does not process or transfer money.

Account help and privacy

Why am I not receiving notifications?

Check that notifications are enabled both in ChoreBuddy and in your device settings. Also confirm that you are signed in to the correct account and have an internet connection.

How do I delete an account?

You can request account deletion in the app from the page where you create or join a household. Adult account holders must first delete households they own and leave any other households. A restricted user is deleted when removed from their household. Contact support if you cannot complete these steps.

Where can I read the privacy information and Terms?

Read the Privacy Notice and Terms of Use. Privacy requests can also be sent to post@grnd-ctrl.no.

Safety concern?
Use the reporting tools in ChoreBuddy’s safety settings, or email safety@grnd-ctrl.no. Include only the information needed to understand the matter.
